21st Century Education

I personally believe that the skills needed for post high school life are ones that you will actually use in your profession and everyday life. Our school education does not specify any individual subject of a course, it is all mostly just a generalized education system as shown in the Ken Robinson video. I do not believe that we are learning all of these skills in high school. We learn what we need to move on to university not life outside of it. We can't learn proper communication and social skills in school. We do not learn what we want, therefor I believe it's holding us back. If I want to be a doctor, I need a math and two sciences. Sciences which do not specify a particular subject that one would maybe want to specialize in. Now not everybody wants to specialize in something specific and move on to getting a masters degree. That is not saying they are stupid, lazy, or can't do it. Everybody is different, this is why we need more courses when we are in high school because I believe that by this time people have a general idea of what they would like to do when out of school and if not then they can take a course and see if they like it. Another positive about having more options and specifications for courses would be that if you are taking a course that does not intrigue you as much as you would of believed it would, you can get different opinions from your friends or family that have taken different courses than yourself. Next year I would like to be attending some kind of criminology or law course, this is partaking that I am successful in all of my courses in my grade 12 year. In conclusion I believe that the ideal school that would fulfil my need in the future whether I am in school or working at Wal-Mart would be one that has courses that stipulate a specific matter in a subject. So if someone wants to go into the profession to be an international criminal lawyer, there could be an international conflicts or law course. I also believe that the school system should benefit everybody and not put us into groups. If you are exceedingly commendable in your studies you should not be held back by your age. I believe that we should have the ability or option in school to excel in something that interests you.
